Garden jobs for December
1. Feed the birds.
2. Put up nest boxes and see existing boxes are in good repair.
3. Prune apples and pears but not stone fruits like cherries and plums as these are pruned in late spring or early summer.
4. Put grease bands round fruit trees to stop insects climbing up the trunk in winter.
5. Send your mower to be repaired if necessary because if you leave it to the spring you could be without the mower for several weeks.
6. Put a pile of logs in the garden to provide shelter for toads and hedgehogs.
7. Take hardwood cuttings.
8. Insulate outside taps.
9. Wash down greenhouse glass inside and out.
10. Insulate the greenhouse with bubble plastic (larger bubbles are best)
